gybe, or turn downwind, is one of the most challenging operations in sailing, even for experienced sailors. In uncontrolled and controlled gybes, the Wichard Gyb’Easy boom brake slows down the boom movement when changing tack. This safety device is designed to increase crew safety and protect the boat from possible damage. Gyb’Easy is suitable for boats up to 44′ and mainsails with an area of less than 40 m2. A Gyb’Flex rope, length 16 m, diameter 11 mm, is supplied.
Working principle:
Thanks to the special friction of the Gyb’Flex rope, when the rope passes through the boom brake, the boom can gybe in a controlled and jerk-free manner. The more holes the rope passes through, the greater the friction – and the more effective the brake works.
Adjustment:
Gyb’Easy is adjusted by the tension of the rope. There are three different positions available, allowing the system to be adapted to the size of the mainsail and the wind conditions.
Easy installation:
Installation takes only a few minutes. The boom brake is attached to the boom eye. There are two different mounting methods available, making the solution suitable for all deck arrangements.
